Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Catons Lane for today's Ridgeons League First Division fixture against Thetford Town FC. Our visitors today come into the game on the back of an impressive win in the week against premier division opposition. There morale will be high so it is important that we are fully focused and approach the game in the correct manner. Thetford are a hard working side who like to compete so we must assert ourselves and be ready for the challenge. We took a point off our visitors in the corresponding fixture at the end of September in a 1-1 draw. The game itself was an even contest, but with home advantage this afternoon we will be looking to improve on this and seek the three points. Our last fixture here saw us defeat Fakenham Town 2-1 in what was a baffling encounter. Once again we failed to turn our dominance into goals and relied on a last gasp Greg Strong winner to save our blushes. After conceding early on we dominated proceedings and should have run out comfortable winners. Needless to say three points is still the priority in any fixture so there is no need to dwell too much on the scoreline providing it is in our favour!! The Fakenham fixture also marked the return of influential defender Dean Godden following his recent injury spell. Dean lasted the 90mins and looked his usual commanding self so with a few more games under his belt we should see the Big Man back in full swing. Last Saturdays trip to Clacton FC proved to be a spectacle in itself as the match was abandoned due to a floodlight failure. Following a lengthy warm up and starting the game so brightly it was a disappointing outcome for all the players and supporters alike but as we know you should always expect the unexpected! Despite currently having a few injuries to key players and with work commitments for others it was extremely pleasing to see some of the younger players getting a look in last week. We are very fortunate to have an extremely talented bunch of youngsters at the club and following there successes last season and positive start so far this time round they fully deserve there plaudits. Despite the recent weather changes as expected this time of year, the pitch is still in good condition and the recent ground improvements continue to put the club in good stead. Lets hope for a successful day on the pitch as we seek to maintain our promotion challenge. Your support is very much appreciated All the best. Tommy Archive . |
