Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Catons Lane for todays Ridgeons League First Division fixture against Fakenham Town FC.

Our visitors today have had a difficult start to the season and there has been transformation at the club, but we will have to work hard and compete all over the park to gain the points which are so vital at this and any stage of the season.

Over the past few weeks we have been on our travels with four fixtures away from home via league and cup matches. After defeating Cornard Utd 2-0 here on Saturday 27th October in a game in which we dominated, we were defeated against a physical Whitton Utd on Saturday 3rd November. Whitton are a good side with a strong squad of experienced players but on the day we were punished by their more clinical finishing. After levelling the score line we had a certain goal harshly ruled out for offside, the first of many poor decisions by a referee who can only be described as “shocking”. I’m one of only a few people in today’s game who seems to sympathise with the task that the man in the middle has to do, but when a such a poor refereeing display compromises the safety of players then you have to question the involvement of such individuals!!

The lads bounced back defeating Godmanchester Rovers 3-1 in the First Division Cup in a incident packed match. Two penalties, three sendings off and four goals made for an entertaining evening indeed.

Saturday 10th November saw us slip to a 1-0 defeat to Diss Town. After controlling long spells of the game our failure to convert some of our chances and openings proved costly. Against the run of play we were caught out on the break with minutes to go as Diss took full advantage of a single lapse of concentration. To be fair to Diss they play football in the correct manner and it was a good game to watch. Both sets of supporters were complimentary of each other.

Our performance against Long Melford on Tuesday evening saw us produce some free flowing football and we deserved our three points. Despite a last minute consolation goal for Long Melford, we should and probably could have won by four or five during the second half.

On a personal note, it has been a frustrating past few weeks for me following my ankle ligament injury but im anticipating a return this coming week.

Sean Anderson and Dean Godden are both back in light training and over the next few weeks we should hope to see them in action. Also, leading goalscorer Ben Riches is on the mend so we should be getting the squad back up to full strength real soon.  Your support is very much appreciated

All the best. Tommy
