16th October 2017

Walden bounced back after a heavy 4-1 defeat at Stanway Rovers with a well-earned 1-0 win away to Ipswich Wanderers.
Wanderers away, has always been a tough game for the Bloods, but what was a gritty 90 plus minutes the Bloods came away with a deserved 3 points.

Both sides worked hard and created chances, but it was Dan Trendall who made the difference in the 20th minute, when his left footed effort beat the keeper and opened the scoring. That was Trendall's first goal since being promoted to the first team last month. He is becoming a regular in Wardley’s side and has taken his opportunity to shine.

Ipswich didn't let their heads drop, and O'Sullivan was called into action and made an excellent save by tipping the ball over the bar.
The pressure was not over as Wanderers piled men forward, but could only see an effort go wide of the post.

There was a slight break in play when Captain Spike Bell was involved in a challenge and needed medical treatment. This concerned the fans and management, as the injury list is piling up for the Bloods.

Walden continue to attack and we're unlucky not to be awarded a penalty after Ryan Fleming was fouled in the area.
In the second half, Connor Molloy showed great technical ability and looked confident with his passing. He linked up well with Trendall and almost produced an excellent through ball which would have given a great opportunity

The Wanderers were finding Trendall hard to deal with as he continued to frustrate them. He had a few more good opportunities but the defence stood strong and did allow him a second goal.

Ipswich continued to put pressure on the Bloods defence, but Fleming and Skeggs marshalled the back four and are proving to be an excellent centre back duo.

In the closing minutes of the match it could have gone either way, with the referee giving 7 minutes of added time, but it was Walden's day and earned all the points.

MOTM went to Connor Molloy.

At Catons Lane the Reserves put in an excellent performance, and beat Ipswich Wanderers reserves 5-1. It took twenty minutes to break down the defence but went in at half time 3-1 up with goals from Morris, Garrett and Smith.

Manager Keith Dicker made a few changes and they continued to dominate the game and showed great ability. Goals from Moir and Harding put the match out of reach. MOTM went to Liam Moir

Earlier on in the week Mike Riccio’s under 18’s beat top of the table Mildenhall Town U18s 4-1. Goals from Williams, Rowley, Pluck and Ledwith. MOTM went to Sak Hussain. The U18s side are playing some excellent football and are now looking like potential title contenders.

Next at the Lane the first team welcome Brantham Athletic on Saturday 21st October at 3pm
