Stuart Wardley made four changes following his side’s disappointing performance last time out against Walsham le Willows, as the Bloods grabbed a last-gasp thriller in a five-goal thriller.
The first action of the game came for the visitors as a well-timed through ball found an attacker who hit the left post in a one on one situation.
Walden’s first chance came in the seventh minute. Oliver Emsden was found in the centre of the box, but couldn’t quite lay it off to a fellow teammate.
After a fairly quiet opening half hour, the chances started to come thick and fast. In the 37th minute, a mistake from the Newmarket defenders resulted in Dan Trendall latching on to the ball and sprinting into the box, but he couldn’t get a shot away and the ball was stolen from him at the vital moment.
The first goal came for Walden five minutes later. The eager Dan Trendall made up for his wasted opportunity as the ball fell to his feet just inside the box and he lofted it over the goalkeeper.
Newmarket responded with an equaliser just before the half ended. A free kick over on the left hand side deceived O’Sullivan and bounced into the left corner of the goal.

Newmarket didn’t waste any time in the second half and quickly put themselves ahead only two minutes in. An attacker ran down the right wing and floated the ball over O’Sullivan from just outside the box.
Walden were awarded a penalty in the 50th minute when Ledwith was brought down by a defender. Joe Maybanks stepped up, but fired the ball well over the bar – a real let off for Newmarket.
In the 67th minute, Walden came close as Trendall fired just wide of the target from the left side of the box.
After numerous attempts, the Bloods got the all-important equaliser in the 71st minute. Trendall switched the ball over to the right hand side to Maybanks who cut inside into the box and fired past the keeper.
In the dying seconds of the game, substitute Joe Murphy grabbed the decisive goal. He was found in the centre of the box, turned and slotted the ball home to grab the win for his team.
