Tuesday 23rd October 2007 :Ridgeons League Cup

Haverhill Rovers

 2 - 0

Saffron Walden Town FC

Impey, Harvey

Walden made the short trip to Haverhill looking to reverse the result from last years Cup fFnal. With both teams having to reshuffle their teams through injury, Walden got off to a promising start. Chadwick and Kingham combined to set Barker free of his marker and he fired in a shot that Benstead - at full stretch -  tipped round the post.

With both teams battling for dominance, Rovers got the upper hand when Impey slotted in after a mix up in the Bloods defence. l-0 (24minutes).

Rovers continued to pressure the visitors defence and Danbury's back header hit the crossbar of his own goal.

On the half hour mark Impey out jumped the Walden defence to head wide of the post. Walden pushed for an equaliser but could not break through the Rovers determined defence. Palazon's curving corner kick found Harvey unmarked to head in Rovers second goal. 2-0 (37minutes)

The second half continued at a hectic pace, both teams attacks breaking down on the edge of the penalty box.

On the hour mark Westcott beat the offside trap to set Impey up with a shot that Lewis did well to hold. Westcott could have increased Rovers score but for the reflexes of Lewis who pulled off the save of the match. 2-0 (90minutes).

The game was an example of good competitive football played at a fast pace, with very few fouls or infringements, but the referee seemed oblivious to this and proceeded to book two players from each team to the amazement of both sets of supporters.
