“Silverware Heads to Catons Lane”
Saffron Walden Town Reserves beat Stowmarket Reserves 2-0 and were crowned The Chell Trophy Winners.
The Bloods worked very hard and showed great skill and determination throughout the match. After some great attempts Greg Strong fired the Bloods in front, just before half time. The ball was delivered over the defence and Strong's positioning was perfectly executed. He controlled the ball and rattled the back of the net from a very tight angle.
Coby Game secured the win in the 55th minute for Walden with a second and final goal. He ran onto a loose ball when the Stowmarket defence failed to clear the danger. He controlled the ball well, and slot it into the back of the net.
The score line could have been more had it not been for the Stowmarket goalkeeper Ben Hicks. He made some great saves to deny efforts from Tarman, Dicker and Pluck.
Walden were in control and certainly deserved the win.
After the match manager Keith Dicker praised his teams effort and described them as first class. He said 'We play to develop the lads and want to work the ball from the back. We want to play proper football and have won a trophy doing that' Keith also thanked his colleagues Glen Wilkinson, James Hayden and U18s Manager Mike Riccio for helping developing the players.
