Reserves lose out in 5 Goal Thriller
Superb team performance not enough as Witham Town beat the Reserves 3-2
Sometimes you can play all the football and come out of the game with nothing!! Today unfortunate one of those days. This is not to say that Witham didn't play their part in producing a quality game of football. They did exactly that and helped educate some of the young Walden lads in the art of game management.
Despite all of the play in the first 30 minutes, Witham went ahead when they took advantage of some poor decision making from CUNNING and GARRETT in the Walden defence.
Another mix up allowed Witham to double their lead early in the second half and this took a lot of wind out of Walden sails. However, with the tireless running of SMITH and DAVIES in the midfield and the intelligent play from 1st teamer Mason Naylor, Walden pulled one back through TRENDALL who was put in by an intelligent KIBBLEWHITE pass.
Again, against the run of play and through another poor decision in the back line, Witham claimed back their 2 goal advantage.
Their was more to come from Walden when after yet another hazy run from MOM Dan TRENDALL saw him taken down in the penalty box.
Up stepped HARDING to smoothly slot the ball home.
Despite a nervy last few minutes, Witham held on for their 3-2 victory.
Manager Keith Dicker was optimistic in defeat saying "I am delighted with our work ethic and game play today. Witham are a decent outfit and I strongly believe we outplayed them for long periods today. The boys will have learned a lot today and this defeat will help them understand the need to make chances count"
