Reserves Lose out to Halstead
By Glen Wilkinson
A late penalty saw Halstead Reserves beat Saffron Walden Reserves in a very entertaining game at Catons Lane
Halstead took all 3 points tonight although the Bloods made them work hard for the entire 90 minutes.
It was good to see both teams playing the game the right way from the first minute. The game was scoreless in the first half but by no means uneventful with both teams having chances to score at both ends. Jack Morris coming closest to opening the scoring for the bloods with a superb header which forced a terrific save from the impressive Halstead keeper.
The deadlock was broken in the 50th minute when skipper Charlie DAVIES ceased an opportunity to perform an overhead kick in the penalty area to put the bloods one up.
The lead didnt last long. Halstead were awarded a free kick close to the touchline and an unmarked player rose to head the ball in with keeper Jason HARVEY rooted to the spot.
Chances were still being created at both ends and the lively Charlie Dicker could have nicked it for the Bloods with a fine solo run which bought out yet another fine save from the keeper.
On 80 Minutes Reef Cowell was ajudged to have fouled the Halstead striker in the area and the referee pointed straight to the penalty spot.
Jason HARVEY then made a fine save from the spot kick, only to find the bloods defence rooted to the spot while the same Halstead striker followed up the rebound and scored the winner.
Shame about the result, but a fine game and lessons will need to be taken from the game.
